V-Ray Materials

While V-Ray Materials are similar to the WebGL Materials in some aspects, they come with more advanced features that contribute to generating a hyper realistic render.

To access V-ray Materials, go to Render > Materials > V-Ray. The following is a list of the most common V-Ray Materials:

  • V-Ray Standard - provides users with all the elements to create a physically accurate shader. You can add textures, and bump effects and render accurate reflection and refraction with far less computation cost. You can learn more about the V-Ray Standard Material from the official user guide.
  • SSS2 Complex - is a highly improved Sub Surface Scatter effect that is used for creating translucent materials such as skin and jade. The SSS2 Complex comes with three main layers: Diffuse, Sub-Surface Scattering, and Specular. The light of your scene scatters and bounces inside your object a number of times to generate a realistic translucent effect. You can learn more about the V-Ray SSS2 Complex from the official user guide.

  • Car Paint - is a complex shader made up of four different layers that are geared towards simulating a realistic metallic car paint. The four different layer shaders are Diffuse Layer, Glossy Layer, Metallic Flakes and Clear Coat Layer. More can be learned from Chaos Group`s official user guide.

  • Vismats and VRmats - are static preset materials that are non-editable when assigned to your mesh. They can come with or without an existing texture applied. Clara.io already has a built-in library of Vismats and Vrmats (introduced in VRay 3.0). Furthermore, you can import your own Vismats and VRmats to be used with V-Ray in Clara.io. You can learn more about Vismats and VRmats here.

All information regarding V-Ray Materials can be found at Chaos Group’s official user guide to V-ray.
